NOT his cousin with the same name who was born in 1793 even though this one's gravestone has that date by mistake. This TSM had three wives; the cousin did not.

I have three Thomas Spencer Meltons in my database. (1) Thomas Spencer Melton, b. 05 Feb 1793 in Greene Co., GA, d. ? in DeKalb Co., TN, son of William Alexander Melton (1761-1836) and Lucy Daniel Allen (1762-1815), m. Mary Zackry. I do not have any info on Mary or their children. He is my 1st cousin 5 times removed. He is the one you are looking for. (2) Thomas Spencer Melton, b. 1801 in Greene Co., GA, d. 08 Mar 1871 in Elmore Co., AL, buried at Lovejoy Cemetery, Elmore Co., AL, son of Robert Melton, Sr. (1763-1821) and Elizabeth Spencer (c. 1765-1804). He had 3 wives and 16 children that I am aware of. Marriages: (1) Elizabeth Cynthia Thrash (1803-1843) m. 21 Nov 1820 in Putnam Co., GA--4 children. She is my 3rd great-grandmother. (2) Cynthia Lasseter, m. abt 1844--2 children. (3) Susan Ann Lovejoy (1827-1903) m. 14 Mar 1848 in Tallapoosa Co.,AL.--9 children Many of the early Melton researchers/genealogists confused the first two Thomas Spencer Meltons. You will find Thomas Spencer Melton (1801-1871), my 3rd great-grandfather as being born in 1793, because one of the earlier researchers in my family confused the two. Then everyone copied the dates. In fact, the dates on his headstone show 1793-1871 instead of 1801-1871. Because he and his 1st cousin, Thomas Spencer Melton (1793-?) were both born in Greene Co., GA, it was easy to confuse the two. (3) Thomas Spencer Melton (1904-1936), b. 05 Apr 1904 in Elmore Co., AL, d. 22 Aug 1936, son of Henry Dallas (Buddy) Melton, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth McInnish. He is the grandson of my Thomas Spencer Melton (1801-1871).
