About Thomas Basil Morris
Here is a summary of the info that Bonnie Morris sent to me:
There was page after page of witnesses testifying to the fact that Thomas B. Morris was sound and healthy, stout and able-bodied before enlistment in service. Then about the spring of 1865 he started having chronic diarrhea. When he was discharged was very thin and debilitated by said disease of chronic diarrhea and grew weaker and weaker. One witness stated that he contracted diarrhea in the line of duty in the state of Louisiana in the spring of 1865. And William N. Morris testified that he was present at the death of Thomas B. near Truxton on 7 Dec. 1875 Another witness stated he never did recoup his health again.
Then there was several testimonies as to the witnesses of the marriage of Thomas B. Morris and Elizabeth Earnest on 11 Oct. 1849 by Justice of Peace, O. Coffey, in Louisville, Lincoln, MO [and Elizabeth stated she was married by Coffee on 11 Oct. 1848!!]
So, here you have it.........nothing concrete to confirm Nicholas & Rebecca as Thomas B.'s parents....... but, yet fairly strong evidence, too!........Gail
Here is what Bonnie Morris said:
Husbands line is Thomas Basil Morris and Elizabeth Ann Earnest Thomas Henry Morris Martha Jane Gagan Charley Morris and Corra May Mosher Samuel Clinton "Peck" Morris and Evelyn Lucille Thompson
Peck is the one who gave me information on the Morris family he had paid someone to research the family. Some of what he recieved I have found to be inaccurate as I stated earlier This researcher claimed that the parents of Thomas Basil were William Morris and Parmilia Morris of Kentucky but that did not fit so I went looking for a Morris family of North Carolina as that is where Thomas said he was born although some of his children gave other locations of his birth on subsequent census records I belive Thomas would know where he was born. He Also list his birth as Surry North Carolina on his Military Muster which is on Ancestry.
I found the family of Nicholas Morris and the story of how they died of Cholora brought back by a son and with the Pension record of Thomas stating he came back from the war with cronic diarrhea (Cholera symptom) I belive that I have found the correct parents of Thomas.

Story about Thomas Henry(son of Thomas Basil Morris) and wife Martha Jane Gagan
BIOGRAPHY: Thomas made a living Playing the Fiddle. They moved from town to town. His wife's Family moved when they moved where one family lived the others lived close by. They lived in MO. IL. and went to OK. when the State was given to the Indians. They lived in Indian Territory OK. They finally settled on the Al Hogan Ranges In West Pryor OK. There each family had a house and the children attended school there. Al Hogan was a rich farmer and gave each family 5 cows and a house. They all cut Hay together on the ranch. Thomas and Martha lived in one house where George Samuel and Myrtle were born. Martha's mother Fanny Woodson moved in with them after she broke her leg and stayed with them till she died. Some of the children lived on the ranch for a time. They are all registered under the Cherokee Indians except the three youngest children. Thomas and Martha and several of the children moved to Coffeyville KS around 1909.
Martha was part Cherokee Indian her mother Fanny registered her children and Grandchildren on Cherokee rolls until she was too old. Martha refused to register the three youngest of her children. Martha Jane was a very good cook cooking good home food and taking people in to feed until she died.
