Biography

Thomas Savage was born January 5, 1709/10, in Boston, a son of Habijah Savage, and Hannah (Phillips) Savage. Thomas was a constable in 1735, and a clerk of the market in 1737. Thomas became a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, in 1739, and was appointed its first sergeant in 1744, its ensign in 1752, its lieutenant in 1755, and its captain in 1757. He also served as a member of the Boston militia and was appointed its captain in 1756. Thomas became a justice of the peace on November 13, 1760.

On June 26, 1735, in Boston, Thomas married Deborah Briggs daughter of John Briggs, Briggs-3279 and Deborah (Cushing) Briggs, and grand-daughter of Judge John Cushing of the Superior Court of the Province. Children of Thomas and Deborah were born in Boston and baptized at Brattle Square Church:
