Thomas Smith and his wife Ruth drowned on 16 Jan 1670
in the Pawtuxet River, Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
A son Thomas Smith of Christopher Smith of Rhode Island & Alice Smith is included in most literature up to The Ancestry of Emily Jane Angell (1992). This connection has been essentially disproven via DNA studies, and no baptism for him has been found.
His parents are unknown.

NOTE: The identity of his parents as Christopher Smith and Alice (Gibbes) Smith has been speculatively posited in the past. However, recent research has found no evidence for his baptism in Startford-upon-Avon, and DNA evidence has recently ruled out his connection with this particular Smith family. (DNA research by Kitty Cooper Smith of SmithConnections.)
He married Ruth Wickenden, marriage intentions Jan 27,1658/9.
He and his wife were both drowned in the Pawtuxet River on the same day.
