About Thomas "Tommy" DeBarge

Musician, Vocalist. A bass guitarist, he will be remembered for his tenure with the R&B and Funk group "Switch." Formed in Mansfield, Ohio during the mid 1970s, they initially were signed under the RCA label which resulted in their debut album "White Heat" (1975). This was followed with "Pall Mall" (1976) with Polydor Records. Under the Motown label, they achieved commercial success with their self-titled album "Switch" (1978) which achieved Top-40 album status on the American Pop Charts. The single "There'll Never Be" also eared a Top-40 position on the American Pop Charts as it peaked at number 36 in 1978. The group recorded four additional albums prior to Tommy's departure in 1981. Along with older brother Bobby, Tommy went on to assist with the group "DeBarge" which consisted of several siblings which included El DeBarge.
