Thomas Treadwell Davis, (grandson of Thomas Tredwell), a Representative from New York; born in Middlebury, Addison County, Vt., August 22, 1810; moved to New York in 1817 with his parents, who settled in Clinton, Oneida County; attended the Clinton (N.Y.) Academy, and was graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., in 1831; moved to Syracuse, Onondaga County, in 1831; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1833 and commenced practice in Syracuse; was also interested in railroading and coal mining; elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1867); was not a candidate for renomination in 1866; resumed the practice of law in Syracuse; died in Washington, D.C., May 2, 1872; remains were cremated and the ashes deposited in Oakwood Cemetery.
