About Thomas Wilson, of Strubby
Thomas Wilson, a farmer, of Strubby, Lincolnshire
His son Thomas Wilson (rhetorician) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His father, according to the pedigree in the Visitations of Lincolnshire, was Edmund Wilson, the son of Thomas Wilson and Margaret Songer.
There is a claim that Thomas was the son of Sir John Wilson, Knight, Burgess of Fife (1450-1492) and Margaret Baxter Harvie (1450-1471.) He married Lady Anne Cumberworth about 1490 of Magheralin, County Down, Ireland; however, no documentation of this relationship or these people exist, except for unsourced profiles on Geni.com and unsourced Ancestry family trees, so it's highly unlikely that this claim is true.
According tot he Visitation, Thomas and Anne were the parents of five sons: Thomas, Humphrey, William, Godfrey, and Charles.
The visitation also shows that there is no relation of this Wilson family to the family of Rev. William Wilson of Windsor Castle ... these are completely different Wilson families, one originating in Yorkshire and the other originating in Cumberland. The son added here named "William Cumberworth Wilson" was added in error, as his birth and death information correspond to a William Wilson of Welbourne that belongs with the family of Rev. William Wilson of St. George's Chapel and Windsor Castle.
