The Vandenbergh family was in the rope making business in Holland. When steamships came into use, it cut down on the number of sailing ships, so of course the rope business dropped off. In Holland they had one cow and they had a travel quite a distance over the dikes to find grass for the cow. They had heard from someone in America that they could have as much land as you could see, by homesteading it for free, so they came to America, Two brothers came to America from Rotterdam, Netherlands. A bachelor, John (Yelba) Vandenbergh and Titus (Tousand) Vandenbergh with his wife Jane (Jennie) and family. Came to America about 1874. There were seven children. One of the children was Issac Vandenbergh who married Daisy Rensche Fabor and they had one daughter Jennie who had been born in Holland, and while on the way to America, Charlie Vandenbergh was born on ship. After settlilng at Eastonville, Colorado other children were worn. They were Titus, Anna, Bessie, John and Mable. At one time Granpa Issac Vandenbergh was a gardener for General Palmer Colorado Springs. When he got his first pay he was rolled for his money in Colorado City. Colorado City was a wild town at this time.
