Of Laheen, (i.e. Laheen Townland, parish of Kiltubbrid), Co. Leitrim and Oxhill, Co. Roscommon.
Ref. Burke's "Landed Gentry of Ireland" 1912 edn., PEYTON, p.561.
Birth: Year per Margaret Goff.
Death: Data per Turlough O'Carolan web-site.
In "A Flame now Quenched" (p.58) by Liam Kelly, there is a reference to a Toby Peter seeing some "United Irishmen" at Cashcarragan (sic) and a chapel being searched for them (1797). In a footnote, the author writes, "This is most likely a reference to Toby PEYTON, one of the PEYTON family who lived at Laheen, Keshcarrigan." Perhaps this Tobias had a son of the same name who is not listed by Burke? From "Clare Journal" of Thurs 14 May 1818: "Married, Tobias PEYTON Esq., of Knockvicar, Co. Roscommon, to Alicia, yst. dau. of the late Thomas PHIBBS Esq., of Donamurren, Co. Sligo."
The death of a Tobias PEYTON, a.70, was reg. at Carrick-on-Shannon, in 1874, vol. 13, p.34. If the age is correct, he would have been born 1803/04 so would not appear to be the same person who married in 1818. Possibly a brother of Charles Robert PEYTON of Castlecarrow
