..."Thomockham alias Ashneon," had lived for some time in the region between the Shetucket and Quinebaug Rivers before moving south to join the families living at Uncas Hill, later known as Mohegan. It was fitting that Tomockham became known as a suporter of the sachem Uncas, for his grandson Samons Occom was reputedly descended from Uncas on his maternal side. Tomockham's wife bore him at least three sons, and one named Joshua, who was known as "a great hunter", was Samson Occoum's father.
