About Ulysses Grant Garrett
Funeral services for Grant Garrett, 92, who died Sunday, were held yesterday afternoon at the Stout and Son Funeral Home, Russiaville. Rev. Franklin Arthur officiated and burial was made in South Union cemetery. Death occurred at 4:45 p. m. Sunday at the Arzula Flora Nursing Home in Flora. He had been in failing health about three years. He was born Nov. 3, 1867, in Western Howard county, the son of Leander and Mary E. Harrell Garrett, and was married in 1889 to Miss Dora Pearch, whose death occurred November 1, 1949. Mr. Garrett was a member of the New Zion Christian Church, and in his early life was a farmer in Ervin township, Howard county. Later he was a real estate dealer in Kokomo for 40 years. Survivors are five children, Victor Garrett, Burlington; Mrs. William (Fern) Smith, Greentown; Mrs. Orville (Beulah) Thompson, Young America; Mrs. J. R. (Grace) Crume, and Mrs. Eva Valentine, Kokomo. There also are 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother are deceased.
