About Unknown Whitman
Various theories were but forth regarding the Whitmans of Weymouth and CT during the 19th century. One theory had them descended from the Witmans of Norfolk England. It was proposed that possibly Prudence Alcock of Norfolk had married John Whitman, the immigrant brother of Zachariah and Elizabeth Whitman. More recent research in the Great Migration Study by Robert Charles Anderson shows that these three Whitman immigrants did not come from Norfolk, England but instead came from Lee, Buckinghamshire, England. According to Robert Charles Anderson in the Great Migration, Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635 John1 Whitman of Weymouth, Zachariah1 Whitman of Dorchester, New Havan and Milford and Elizabeth1 (Whitman) [Stream] Otis are all children of Richard Whitman of Lee, Buckinghamshire, England. Therefore the theory that Prudence is not part of this family. The identity of the wife of John Whitman of Weymouth remains unknown. Please also note that it was John's son who married 1st to Ruth Reed not the father.
