About Unknown wife of Frederick Hardee Floyd

Manager's note: No concrete evidence to support full name of wife, hence "Unknown" of {Unknown} Floyd. She is NOT Susannah Clack. Do not merge with the Clack family. No evidence of any Clacks in Horry County or vicinity at this time.

There is some evidence that Frederick may have married twice based on the ages of children with "Sarah" being his second wife. Family speciulation has that wife or wives may have been of the Thompson and/or Pittman families. No proof has surfaced at this time and is mere speculation. SF

Marty Grant makes a good case for Frederick's wife being named Sarah Unknown using 1800, 1810, and 1820 census data: http://www.martygrant.com/genealogy/floyd/floyd-frederick-horry.htm

"Frederick Floyd married someone in the 1790's. The only clue to her name that I've seen is that there is a widow Sarah (---) Floyd listed on the 1820 census after Frederick died. It seems likely that she was his wife. Others have come to this same conclusion but I don't know if there is any solid evidence that Sarah was Frederick's wife. Sarah was born ca 1765/1774. Her maiden name is unknown."

Frederick is listed on the 1800 census in Georgetown District:

1820 census analysis (based on available evidence): (Explanation of this census)

1820 Horry Dist., SC pg 134/7 Sarah Floyd widow 210100-01001-0-0 Analysis:

1 Female(s) 10-15 (1804-1810) Jane Floyd (c1807) daughter

Sarah (---) Floyd wasn't listed on the 1830 census in Horry as far as I could find. She may have been dead by then, or perhaps remarried or just living with other relatives and no longer a head of household herself. Her son Hardy Floyd had a female age 40-49 (c1780/90) with him in 1830. That isn't a perfect age match, but it could be Sarah. Frederick Floyd had a female with him in 1840 age 60-69 (1770/80) who could be Sarah.

I have no further data on Sarah, but she was probably dead by 1842 for she wasn't named in the probate records filed that year naming Frederick's heirs. From Marty Grant.
