Born in a family of merchants.

In 1883, he engaged in the improvement of national musical instruments and formed in St. Petersburg from the fans of the game on their orchestra of strings (dobro four different sizes, balalaika six sizes, harp), wind (fob or zhaleyka - kind of flute, shepherd's horn), shock ( coverings - timpani race of the big clay pots with stretched skin on them, tambourine).

And there appeared to them in great demand, in connection with which the craftsmen increased their production of musical instruments, supported by the introduction of learning games for them in the army. We began to publish school and notes (mostly arrangements of folk songs, original compositions, waltzes and other works).

Possessing virtuoso technique of playing the balalaika, and Andreev acted as a composer for his instrument and for the Great Orchestra. From time to time he performed with his orchestra concert tour in Russia and Europe (which was a huge success), as well as in charge of the formulation of learning to play the Russian folk instruments in the Guard troops.

Vasily Andreev was a member of the All-Russian and Russian Assembly of the National Club.

It was originally buried at St. Nicholas cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg. In 1936 he was re-buried in the necropolis of masters of arts at the Tikhvin Cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. The tomb is located on the composer's path. In 1950, at the tomb of the pedestal is installed with the urn.

Явился на них широкий спрос, в связи с которым возникло усиленное их производство мастерами музыкальных инструментов, поддержанное введением обучения игры на них в войсках. Стали издаваться школы и ноты (преимущественно аранжировки народных песен, оригинальные композиции, вальсы и другие сочинения).

Виртуозно владея техникой игры на балалайке, Андреев выступал и в качестве композитора для своего инструмента и для великорусского оркестра. Время от времени он совершал со своим оркестром концертные путешествия по России и Европе (где имел огромный успех), а также заведовал постановкой обучения игре на русских народных инструментах в войсках гвардии.

Василий Андреев являлся членом Русского Собрания и Всероссийского Национального Клуба.

Первоначально был погребён на Никольском кладбище в Александро-Невской лавре в Санкт-Петербурге. В 1936 году был перезахоронен в некрополе мастеров искусств на Тихвинское кладбище Александро-Невской лавры. Могила находится на Композиторской дорожке. В 1950 году на могиле установлен постамент с урной.
