- Her husband, Navin Chanderlal (53), was charged for his wife's murder, and remanded into police custody at Westville Prison, until his bail hearing on 21st January 2019. He was allegedly unhappy with her decision to divorce him and move abroad. He maintained that he could not recall the day of the incident as he was on medication and was battling severe depression. He said after taking his medication he would sleep for days.

- Chanderlal, who is represented by attorney Chris Gounden, was released on bail of R3000, in October 2019. His bail has been extended until his trial starts in the Durban High Court in May 2020.
