Vene Brent Kunz

Vene Brent Kunz, 85, of Moreland, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Bingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1923 in Bates, Idaho, to Frank Stanley and Ruth Grace Drake Kunz and was raised in the Teton Valley. He attended school in Victor, Idaho and took classes at Ricks College. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On May 24, 1944 he married Frances Hamilton in the Logan LDS Temple. Following their marriage they made their home in Sugar City; in 1991 they moved to Moreland. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various callings, including: Stake Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple, and was very involved in Church athletic programs.

Vene owned and operated a body and fender business, sold insurance, was security manager for the Youth Training Center in St. Anthony, and worked as a carpenter. He boxed in his younger years, played baseball in a semi-professional league, and ran a trap-line, trapping mink, muskrat and beaver. He liked to hunt and fish, enjoyed gardening and yard work and loved sports and making quilts with his wife.

He is survived by his children Brent H (Judy) Kunz of Pingree, Harold (Teresa) Kunz of Nampa, Idaho, Isabel (Roger) Wilde of Coaldale, Alberta, Canada, Janis (Clark) Wray of Moreland, Deanna Kunz Smith of Salt Lake City; a brother, Thayne (Kathleen) Kunz of Moreland; 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; a son, Frank Reid; his parents; two brothers, F. Carvel and Vaughn; a sister, Fairy; and a sister-in-law, Mary.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Moreland LDS Chapel. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday June 16, 2008 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be in the Sugar City Cemetery at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Military rites will be presented by the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post No. 23.
