Vernon Bowman, 87, Martinsville passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at The Waters of Martinsville.

He was born Friday, February 8, 1924 in Martinsville to the late Thomas J. and Ola Jane (Akins) Bowman.

On February 10, 1950 he married Loretta Jean (Massey) Bowman and she survives.

Vernon was a self-employed building contractor. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1942 and was a member of Grace Tabernacle Church in Martinsville. He was an Army Combat Veteran serving during WWII.

Other survivors include two daughters, Pam and Cheryl both of Texas; one son, Erni of Texas; two granddaughters, Tammy Grant of Texas and Stacy Doss of Oklahoma; two sisters, Levetta Bryant of Mooresville and Virginia Wigal of Martinsville.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Grace Tabernacle Church, 323 West Washington Street, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151 with Rev. Brad Colwell officiating. Family and friends will visit one hour prior to the services.

There will be a military service at the church following the funeral service and burial will be at Nebo Memorial Park at a later time.
