S'agit-il d'Abraham Janssen, peintre flamand dont les ouvrages se font généralement remarquer par un coloris brillant et une facture magistrale? M. le B°n de Bouglon attribuerait plutôt l'œuvre à Victor Honorius Janssen, peintre belge distingué, qui résida longtemps à Rome et peignit de nombreux sujets empruntés à l'Histoire ou à la Fable dans une manière claire et égayée.
Les traditions de la famille d'Aiguesvives, d'où le cabinet est provenu par héritage au marquis de Bon, veulent que ce meuble ait été le cadeau d'un pape à un membre de là famille qui accompagnait une ambassade française à Rome.
