He was the son of Dr. Cornelius Luce and his first wife, Olive Foster (1761-1796), whose place of burial is unknown as of January 4, 2015. His parents married in 1780 and were the parents of Vinal, Elizabeth, Jane Deborah, Sophia, John Manley and William Foster Luce.
