About Vita Drygas

Vita Žalekvičiūtė Drygas Vita Żelakeviciute-Drygas was born in Vilnius, studied at the Film Institute in Moscow, and for many years has been living in Poland. She has directed three documentary films so far. Startling „Schizophrenia" (opening film of the festival in 2002) exposed the subject of abuse of psychiatry for political repressions in the USSR. Last film by Vita Żelakeviciute - „Beyond the Wall" - won the Jacek Kuroń Award for the best short film at the last Watch Docs Human Rights in Film festival. Later it was also awarded with the Silver Conch at the International Film Festival in Mumbai. Vita Żelakeviciute also collaborated with her husband, Maciej Drygas, on his documentaries „Voice of Hope" and „One Day in People's Poland".
