Vivien Ponté (1956 - 2013)
Brief overview:
Vivien (57), a pharmacist, was horrifically murdered in her Oranjeville, Free State, house on 11th August 2013. She was tied up, raped, strangled, and possibly still alive when she was set fire to. Her body was discovered by police and her neighbours after one of Ponté's gardeners arrived at the house.
The house had been ransacked, but only the master bedroom was set fire to, and there were blood splashes around the room. A colleague was arrested over a stolen hard drive belonging to Ponté.
Const. Peter Kareli of Sasolburg police said police had requested the woman to hand over all of Ponté's belongings, including a laptop. "She (the colleague) came to Oranjeville from Johannesburg on Friday to hand over the goods, but was arrested there after police saw the laptop's hard drive was removed," he said.
The woman appeared in the Heilbron court, and four men - Moses Motloung (23), Johannes Mofokeng (24), Jeremiah Mnune (26), and Moleketi Motloung (21) - appeared in the Heilbron Magistrate's Court two days later. They were charged with murder, robbery and arson.
According to Ponté's neighbours, she had a good heart, distributed monthly food parcels in the squatter camp, offered art classes and also contributed financially.
