Waleran I, seigneur de Ligny

Lord of Ligny, appointed by the count as duke of Luxembourg, was a robber baron.

After the extinction of the Limburg house in 1280, he pretended to be the new count of Limburg, just like some cousins who, like him, also descend from the Limburg house in female lines. Count Jan from Brabant wins this with the result that Walmram became a robber baron.

Na het uitsterven van het Limburgse huis in 1280 pretendeerde hij de nieuwe graaf van Limburg te zijn, net als enige neven die net als hij ook in vrouwelijke lijn uit het Limburgse huis stammen. Graaf Jan uit Brabant wint dit met als gevolg dat Walmram roofridder werd.
