Among the most interesting experiments of cattle importation is a shaggy-haired heard of West Highland cattle which was brought Walter Hill, son of pioneer builder and railroadman James J Hill, from the rugged hillsides of Scotland to perhaps equally rugged slopes of Montana Rockies. It is for their sturdiness as well as for their beef producing qualities that Mr Hill brought these cattle to his mountain ranch near Yellowstone Park and the Continental Divide.
His father James J Hill used to bring choice cattle from Eastern Canada and Scotland to "farm out" to struggling farmers and so to improve for all time the beef cattle of the Northwest United States.'
Walter Jerome Hill, was the youngest son of James J. Hill.
He raised prize winning cattle on his ranch near Livingston, Park County, Montana.
He married 1st Dorothy Barrows (circa 1908) and had a daughter Dorothy. He married 2nd Pauline Gillison. He divorced Pauline on 18 May 1927 in Livingston, Park County, Montana. And on the same day & same place he married 3rd Mildred Richardson.
