About Walter John Kelm
While serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, Walter Kelm was killed in action in South Vietnam on October 28, 1965. His brother was actor Tab Hunter.

Born in New York, NY on August 18, 1930 to Gertrude (Gelien) and Charles Kelm, he was the older brother of Hollywood actor Tab Hunter. Following his parents’ divorce, he grew up in California with his mother, brother, and maternal grandparents, Ida (Sonnenfleth) and John Henry Gelien. His mother changed her sons’ surnames to her maiden name, Gelien. He was preceded in death by his mother.
While serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he was killed in action in South Vietnam on October 28, 1965. He was survived by his father, a wife, seven children, a brother, and many nieces and nephews. Following his death, his brother continued to look after Walter’s family as the center of his own family life. Inscription: US NAVY HMC VIETNAM
