29 April 1597: Newbattle: Instrument of sasine in favour of James Ker in Edinburgh, brother of Walter Ker of Litildene, and Margaret Charteris, his wife, of a holding in Newbottle, two acres in Medowflett and 1½ acres in Bellieboucht, following on charter by John Reid, carpenter in Leith, with consent of Katherine Moysie, his spouse, dated 28 Sept. 1596. 15 March 1608: Charter by which James VI, King of Scots, ratifies charters by which the deceased Walter Ker of Litildene confirms that he has given the baronies of Maxton and Lyntoun in the sheriffdom of Roxburgh, including the lands of Littildene in barony of Maxton, to his eldest lawful son and heir, Sir John Ker of Hirsell. The king also ratified a charter by which the deceased William Kirktoun of Stewartfield confirms that he had given the four husband lands called Tuunyettame and Bairers, located in the barony of Maxton to Joh Ker of Hirsell. - 1 - The corn mill at the Lees, in the possession of the nuns of Coldstream Priory. In 1579 the Prioress Elizabeth Hoppringle and convent granted a charter to John Ker, son of Walter Ker "of Littledean, Auld Hirsel and other lands, near the water of Leet, plus the Lees, Braidhauch, Deadrig, Fireburn and Coldstream Mills which had been destroyed by the English, with a permission to rebuild."
