About Walter Nichols, 'the elder'

Clothier from Great Coggeshall, Essex, who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 (based on possession of a house in Cambridge on 8 February 1635/6) & settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Returned to Great Coggeshall in 1638 and died there in 1639.

Buried Great Coggeshall, Essex, 18 May 1639 (as "Walter Nicols the elder").

Married in High Roothing, Essex, 2 June 1607 Elizabeth Cattlyn ("Walter Nicholls of Coxhall & Elisabeth Cattlyn of this parish"). She was buried at Great Coggeshall on 11 January 1627/8.

In the 8 February 1635/6 list of those with houses in Cambridge, Gilbert Crackbone was, like Walter Nichols, credited with a house at Fresh Pond, and the two men were admitted to freemanship on the same day, the only two Cambridge men admitted on that day. GILBERT CRACKBONE {1635, Cambridge} also came from Great Coggeshall, Essex, but no genealogical connection has been found between Nichols and Crackbone.
