About Walter de Beke, Lord of Eresby

Curator error: Eve de Grey was married twice but NOT to Walter Lord of Eresby de Beke. This is confirmed on Medlands [Rootsweb link references the GRANDFATHER of THIS Walter de Beke] http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ann_blomq...

I have therefore detached him from Eve de Grey.

=========================================================================================================

Wrong Eve de Grey. There were *five or six* of her, and Walter de Beke *did* marry one of them. Medlands is *very very very weak* on the early Grey family, and misses most of them.

Burke, Cokayne, Dugdale, Glover (Somerset Herald 1571-1588 and more conscientious than most), et al, agree that Walter de Bec/Beke married one Eve, niece of Walter (de Grey) Archbishop of York, in 1222. But most sources don't name her parents, and of those who do, no two agree. Between three attributed sisters and several attributed brothers (besides one or two documented ones), it looks as though Walter the Archbishop came from a *large* family.
