About Wesley J. Tustin
- Reference: Ancestry Genealogy - SmartCopy: Nov 5 2022, 1:55:53 UTC
Several diarists write that Wesley Tustin drowned while crossing the North Platte River near present-day Casper, Wyoming on the overland trip to the West coast. Although an excellent swimmer, Wesley fell off a horse he was taking across and drowned. Dr. Benjamin Cory wrote "We raked the river as well as we could but could not find his body." Three other diarists also report his drowning at the same place.
On June 25 the diary of William A. Empey reports the body "of Wesley T. Dustin [sic] floting [sic] down the river that was drowned June the 19." A man "went with the boat picked up the corpes [sic] he was inter'd by" another man from a wagon train.
The memorial here is likely a cenotaph.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Nov 5 2022, 2:07:05 UTC
