Wilbert Max Marcum was born on March 29, 1916, in Holt county, Mo. His parents were William H and Ida Mae (Carson) Marcum. Max attended school in Oregon, and entered the United States Army in 1942. He served in Europe during World War II, and at the Battle of the Bulge.

He was married to Margaret K. Sommer on Dec. 20, 1944, in High Wycombe, England. Max was discharged in 1945. The Marcums returned to Holt County where Max worked as the night marshall in Oregon for several years. He later worked for both Western Dairy and Armour Meat in St. Joseph.

Max and Margaret became the parents of one son, Gilbert. Gilbert died on October 24, 1967, while serving in Vietnam. Max and Margaret moved to Colorado in 1968. Max worked at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club in Colorado Springs and later for Western Forge Tool Company in Canon City, Colorado. Margaret passed away in 1983. Max passed away at Community Care in Canon City, on Wednesday morning, October 7, 1998, at the age of 82 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, their son, and one sister, Ethel Stout.

He is survived by his brother, William H. Marcum; and special friends, Clifford and Frances Tiffany, Penrose, Colorado.

Max was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oregon, Missouri and the VFW.
