About Wilbur Crandall
Biography

Wilbor "Webber" Crandall[1] was born in 1717 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island. He was the son of Samuel Crandall and Mary (Wilbor) Crandall[2][3] He married Mary Vaughan in Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island in about 1768.[4]
The couple moved from Tiverton, Rhode Island to Chester Township, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1775, as three of Mary Vaughan's brothers had already settled there. They brought several children with them, including son Peter Crandall.[5] Wilbor Crandall and his wife Mary christened a son Joseph Crandall on May 30, 1784 in St. Stephen Anglican Church, Chester, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.[6]
There's no documented death date for Wilbor, though it is commonly given as 1784.[7] He was buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery, Chester.
They left Rhode Island with their family in 1774.
FROM "THE BAPTISTS, THE FIRST 100 YEARS"
"Wilbur Crandall was about 55 years of age when in 1771 or 1772 Joseph, the second of his eight children was born. In 1775 Mr. Crandall followed some of his relatives and moved his growing family to New Brunswick. In 1785 Mary Vaughn died, leaving him with a very young family.
Joseph was thirteen. he had been called to the bedside of his dying Mother who spoke to him while holding his hand, "Joseph, the Lord has a great work for you to do when I am dead and gone". Wilbur & Mary's son Joseph went into full service for the Lord. Joseph Crandall had a great deal to do with founding Acadia University and his portrait hung for many years in the administrative building hall. Acadia University was founded in 1838 by the Nova Scotia Baptist Educational Society, and is located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on the Gaspereou River."
FROM LUTHER LOUCKS "HISTORY OF KEILLORS, CRANDALLS, HUNTS & LOUCKS"
" The Crandall lineage can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. Rhode Island was virtually occupied with British Soldiers. Wilbur Crandall refused to fight for the crown, and because of his convictions chose to emigrate to Nova Scotia."
Wilbur, Mary, their children and some members of their extended family left the Colonies during the Rev. War. It would appear that they went to join Mary Vaughan Crandall's 3 brothers (John, Daniel, and Anthony). John Vaughan may have owned land in Nova Scotia as early as 1764 but probably settled in or near Chester in abt. 1772 as did his brothers and sister, Mary Crandall. The Vaughan genealogy dates to Daniel, Anthony, John, and Mary's GG-Grandfather, John Vaughan ofNewport, R.I., b. abt 1601. The preceeding sent by Mark Shepard's research.
