About Wilhelmina Grosz
Wilhelmina Gross
A daughter of Gottlieb and Eva Friedrich, was born 18 December 1835 in Kulm, South Russia, where she also was baptized. In 1855 she married Adam Gross. This marriage was blessed with four children of whom three preceded her in death. Her husband died in 1867. She lived as a widow for 72 years. In 1898 she came to America with her son and daughter and their families.
She first settled with her son Gottfried near Ritzville, WA. In 1902 she moved to her daughter, Mrs. Lobe, and her family onto a farm south of Odessa. After the passing of Mr. Lobe in 1919, she and her daughter made their home in the town of Odessa. For 18 years, she was bedridden and taken care of to the best ability.
God blessed the deceased with a healthy mind until her end and she could find comfort in the songs she remembered from her youth. What a miracle of compassion! Her end which she longed for such a long time came almost unexpected on 24 February when she went peacefully at the age of 103 years, 2 months and 6 days. She leaves her grieving daughter, Mrs. Wilhelmina Lobe, 23 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. A large assembly escorted the remains of the 100 year pilgrim on Sunday afternoon to her last resting place. ref: Dakota Freie Presse 17 March 1939 translation by VC Elli Wise - 2008
