Willem Verkerk "Andy" (1954 – 2012)

Brief overview:

Willem 'Andy' (58) was shot five times in front of his wife, Vivien, and mother Eileen Verkerk (82), at Walker Fruit Farms, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday 31st October 2012. Vivien went to let the dogs out as they were scratching at the door. As she unlocked the security gate, the armed attackers grabbed her by the arm and pushed her back inside, threw her to the ground and tied her up. They asked her how many people were in the house, and that they were going to shoot them all. The attackers hit her mother-in-law Eileen on the head with a lead pipe, and dragged both to the bedroom where Andy was. Andy raised his hands and told the attackers to take whatever they wanted to. He stepped forward and that's when they shot him. Their gardener, Christof Mickion (41), who lived in the room outside heard the shots and called the police. The robbers then fled with electrical equipment, cell phones, a TV set and two cars.
