W.P. Baldwin dies Wednesday
William Patrick (Bill) Baldwin of Robertsdale died Wednesday, December 27, at South Baldwin Hospital after a long illness. He was 81 years old.
A lifelong resident of Baldwin County, W. P. Baldwin had contributed much to the growth of the Robertsdale area.
He was a grower and shipper of produce for many years and represented Swift and Company as a dealer for 40 years in Baldwin County.
He served on the Robertsdale Town Council for many years.
At the time of his death, he was president of the Baldwin County Savings and Loan Association, an office he had held since 1958. He was one of the original members of the organization, which was founded in 1927.
He was also one of the founders of the Baldwin National Bank and served for many years as a director of the bank.
He was, at the time of his death, a director and treasurer of Coastal Concrete Company.
He was a charter member of the Robertsdale Rotary Club.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Born in Point Clear, Alabama, he resided in Marlow during his growing up years. The family moved to Robertsdale in 1917. His mother, who had been a widow for many years, operated a store, post office and hotel on Fish River and also had an interest in the steamer Baldwin, which traveled to Mobile each day.
W. P. Baldwin is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eula Belle Baldwin, whom he married in 1917; one son Michael W. Baldwin and two daughters, Mrs. Frances Alvarez, New Orleans, Louisiana and Mrs. Gloria Frailey, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; one brother, George H. Baldwin, Robertsdale; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson.
Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Thursday at Mack Funeral home, Robertsdale with Rosary at 8 p.m.
Services will be held Friday morning, December 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Loxley, Burial will be in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale.
