William Bushnell, with his brothers and sister, was baptized in the 2nd Church of Boston, and nothing further is known of him until 1710, when he was one of the 55 men on the transport Caesar in Lt. Col. Ballentine's Company in the expedition against Port Royal, Nova Scotia under Colonel Frederick Nicholson. On 24 SEP 1710 the vessel was wrecked on the Nova Scotia coast and 26 of the soldiers were drowned, 12 reached shore in a boat, while 17, including William Bushnell, reached the beach by swimming.
He returned to Boston and in 1717 removed to Norwich, and in 1725 to Hartford, CT where he was living as late as 1738, when he and his son William witnessed the will of Nathaniel Marsh. He witnessed the will of John Skinner on 19 SEP 1741, codicil 25 FEB 1744/5 who died May 1752.
probably buried in the Ancient Burying Ground in Hartford. Per the cemetery page, it was the only burial ground there from 1640 to the 1800's.
