William Cavendish, 3rd Earl of Devonshire

William Cavendish, 3rd Earl of Devonshire (c. 10 October 1617 – 23 November 1684) was the son of William Cavendish, 2nd Earl of Devonshire.

He married Lady Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Salisbury, on 4 March 1639. They had two children:

• William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Devonshire (1641–1707)
• Lady Anne Cavendish (c. 1660–?), married John Cecil, 5th Earl of Exeter and had issue.

• ' William Cavendish, 3rd Earl of Devonshire was born on 10 October 1617.1 He was the son of William Cavendish, 2nd Earl of Devonshire and Hon. Christian Bruce.1 He married Lady Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Salisbury and Lady Catherine Howard, circa 4 March 1638/39.1 He died on 23 November 1684 at age 67.1
• ' He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in February 1625/26.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Devonshire [E., 1618] on 20 June 1628.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Cavendish of Hardwick, co. Derby [E., 1605] on 20 June 1628.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
