b. William4 Coale III, born 20 Aug 1667, married Elizabeth Sparrow 30 Jul 1689; ten or more children, including the two below. She was born 20 Oct 1867. He died Jun 1715 Baltimore Co MD, age 47.85

Notes: Some sources list him as Wm.Coale IV, and his brother, by his father's first wife, as Wm. III.

William was the second son of his father named William. He was identified as the younger in Quaker records to tell him from his older brother who was called William Jr.

William is mentioned in the will of his father, and his birth is recorded in the West River Monthly Meeting register. His marriage to Elizabeth Sparrow of the Clifts in Calvert County on 30 JUL 1689 is recorded in the same place.[1]

William Coale III signed his will on 05 July 1713, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, and it was probated on 24 June 1715.

William Coale and Elizabeth Sparrow were the parents of ten children:

Abstract of Will

I Wm Coale of Anne Arundel County in the province afsd being under some indisposition of body am intended god willing to take a voyage for England in order for a better recovery of my health . . .

  • I give to my wife Elizabeth during her natural life my now dwelling plantation together with part of Hills Chance & Talbotts Angles shall be included.
  • I give to my son Samuel Coale & His heirs two tracts in Baltimore County called Martinton and Martins Addition containing 200 acres. But in case he die before full age of 21 without heirs, then both tracts to my son Thomas Coale.
  • I give to my son Thomas Coale & His heirs tract called Young Mans Adventure. But in case he die before full age of 21 without heirs, then both tracts to my son Samuel Coale.
  • I give to my three sons, William, Samuel & Thomas Coale to each of them one young negro man not to be less than 16 nor above 25 years of age, two cows & calves, two sows & pigs, one featherbed & furniture not to cost less in England than 7 pounds each. The legacies to be delivered as they reach age 20 and to be a liberty to work for themselves at the age of 18.
  • I give to my daughter Elizabeth Snowden the sum of 3 pounds sterling.
  • After all my debts are paid the remainder of my personal estate may be divided into 3 parts. One third I give to my wife & the other two thirds to be equally divided between my three sons and my six daughters viz Mary, Hanah, Priscilla, Sarah, Ann & Margaret Coale to each one ninth part.
  • I appoint my wife Elizabeth & my eldest son, William Coale to be executors.
  • I request my two brothers, Richard Galloway & Gerrard Hopkins & my friend Wm. Richardson, to be overseers to advice & adjust.
  • Signed & sealed this 17th day of the 5th month called July 1713. Wm. Coale. The witnesses were Richard Jones, Jr., Abell Hill & Jno. Gouldsberry. Presented to court on 24 JUN 1715.[3]
