When Maj. William Cogswell Jr. was born on December 4, 1659, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, his father, Willimus, was 39 and his mother, Susanna, was 26. He married Martha Emerson on October 9, 1685, in his hometown. They had nine children in 23 years. He died on April 14, 1708, in his hometown at the age of 48.
