About William Allen Crocker

Oil portrait owned by NPS was painted by C(ephas?). Thompson in July 1803 (i.e. when William was a year and 4 months). Information is written on the back of the canvas itself, apparently at the time the painting was done. Cephas Thompson lived 1775-1856; many of his works are at the Boston Atheneum, where there was an exhibition of portraits of children entitled "Seen without being heard" or something like that, in 2004, with a number of Thompson portraits included.

Pair of oil portraits of William and his wife Frances are presently at Merestead. They used to hang in the dining room there, and probably still do. They belong to Bob and Nancy jointly. Probably done 1830s, when he was about 30
