Notes
LNAB of wife Mary:Wife of William: SWAINE- SWAIN - SWAYN - SWAYNE: Explained like this - "Vital Records of Reading, MA show William married Mary (no last name) :) Most genealogies list her as Mary Swain although her birth record gives her name as Swayn, and her father's name was more often than not spelled Swayne." The name of Swain comes from Molyneux's "Eaton Families."[7] Jeremiah Swain sold land to William Eaton in 1703. Jeremiah Swain named his daughter Mary Eaton in his will of 1710. [8] The Essex genealogist in an article on the Gowing family states she is "Mary Burnit." [9] This is incorrect - A different William Eaton of Lynn married Mary Burnit/Burnett. Col. William Eaton, son of Daniel Eaton, married Mary Burnett in Lynn on 12 January 1692/3. They had children born there: Daniel (1693), Mary (1695), Ebenezer (1697), William (1700), Samuel (1705) and Bethiah (1708). These two Williams must not be confused. Caution: A different William also with a wife Mary, and a William Jr. also with a wife Mary were having children in Lynn, Massachusetts about the time this William Eaton moved there. Working on merge of two wife entries. Sources
