A. EVANS, a very old resident of the district, died at his resid- ence, Faithfull-street, at about 9 o'clock on Thursday night. Mr. Evans, we are informed, came to Goulburn in the year 1834, and for some time was a contractor, the first job he undertook being the roofing of the building now known as the Goulburn Brewery. He afterwards built the structure now used as the Superior Public School, the Mechanics' Institute, the Cootamundra railway station, and other buildings and was one of the contractors for the erection of the Commercial Bank. Lately he had not followed any particular avocation. Deceased was sixty-nine years old.
