About William Henry Field

Sonora saddle and harnessmaker, quartz mine investor, and later owner and proprietor of the "Keystone House", a stage and freighting stop on the way to the Tuolumne mines and Yosemite, 'Billy' was known as the most colorful character in the locale originally known as Green Springs. He was held up and shot by highwaymen at least once in his establishment in the late 1870's. He later deeded his property to his next-door neighbors, the Brunsons, who nursed him back to health. After his death, the Brunsons enlarged the freighting stop(now known as Keystone instead of Green Springs) and operated the location for another 20 years. Note: gravesite is currently unknown
