"Old Dominion" Virginia. --- [Excerpt from a biographical sketch about his son Jesse's, son-in-law]: "The second marriage of {Thomas West Scott} was on December 20, 1840, when he was untied to Catherine Fitzgerald. She was born one mile from Lexington, Kentucky, October 30, 1822, a daughter of Jesse Fitzgerald, a native of Colfax county [sic] {Fairfax county}, Virginia {possibly: Colfax, Marion County, West Virginia - formerly part of the "Old Dominion" Virginia}. The paternal grandfather, William Fitzgerald, was also a Virginian by birth, but removed to Kentucky, being one of the earliest white settlers there. On account of the hostility of the Indians, he with several others lived for some time in the fort at Boone Station. Later he purchased land in Fayette county, and resided there until his death.

It was located on Boone's Creek in Fayette County, Kentucky, near present Athens, Kentucky which in Boone's era was called "Crossroads." Boone moved there during the American Revolutionary War after having previously lived in Boonesborough, Kentucky. The new settlement, initially called "Boone's new station", was located on land settled in 1776 by Daniel's son Israel Boone. At its height, the settlement consisted of about 15 to 20 families. Like other "stations" in frontier Kentucky, Boone's Station probably consisted of a number of cabins which shared a common outside wall to defend against American Indian raids. Boone's Station ceased to exist as a community by 1791. It is now (circa 2011) a 46-acre Kentucky State Historic Site, with numerous reconstructed cabins and stockade.
