His next documented location is Lewistown, Illinois USA. Any help locating the names of his parents would be appreciated. He is not listed in any Ohio Census prior to 1850. There is no evidence that William Harvey Fothergill(the subject of this note) is not William Fothergill of Chester, PA. The latter is listed as born in 1835. His wife was born Charity Ann Wells, daughter of William and Ann Wells. Her brother Greenberry is listed in one source (My Heritage) as being born in 1818, in Hamilton County, Ohio. Since Hamilton County borders Clermont County, where William H. and Charity Ann are listed residing in Stonelick Township in 1850 with 1 year old Empson, it is possible they met in somewhere in Hamilton County. 1870 US Census lists William H. Fothergill's age as 55, which would put his year of birth as 1815. There are age discrepancies with every census listing William H. Fothergill. It can be supposed he was innumerate. Update: April19, 2021-The marriage record of William and Charity, dated May 7, 1848, stated William was 24 and Charity was 21 on that date.
