Death came at the home of his son W. M. Gibbs, with whom he had made his home since the death of his aged companion nearly thirty years ago. He was born in Knox County, Tennessee, December 5, 1833. He located in Erath County forty-one years ago and settled near Bunyan, on the "divide" between that community and Lingleville.ming; Z M. Gibbs of Harbin, Texas; I. S. Gibbs of Superior, Arizona; W. S. Gibbs of Beeville, Texas; and W. M. Gibbs of Dublin. He had been a consecrated member of the Missionary Baptist Church since early manhood more than seventy years ago. For these many years of a useful and eventful life, he lived with a purity and gentleness of a woman. He was quiet, unassuming, never in the limelight and graciously lived his own life in his own way and lived it well. It is said that in all the years of his time, he never used tobacco or intoxicants and no one ever heard him use an oath. He was singularly free from any of the common vices of the man of his time. He was a perfect example of a man who gracefully grew to old age and he left a course worthy of emulation by the generation to follow. The beautiful attitude of the son and his entire family where he made his home was extraordinary.
