William was educated in Swellendam and became a Minister of the Wesleyan Church from 1881-1887 where he was a missionary at the Leliefontein Mission Station in Namaqualand. This was the first missionary station in Namaqualand started in 1808. The Church has been declared a National Monument. Will Carl Goch became a schoolmaster in Johannesburg. He was also a reporter on the Volkstem paper in Pretoria. William was later a civil servant in the Pass Office, Boksburg, Transfvaal and ended up in religious work at the Methodist Church in Edenvale, Transvaal.
There is a plaque bering his name in the Leliefontein Mission Church.
