About William Hamilton, 7th Lord Belhaven

Biographical Summary

"William, seventh Lord Belhaven, both 13 January 1765, succeeded his father 21 March 1784, but did not assume the title till the decision of the House of Lords in his favour. He served in the Third King's Own Regiment of Dragoons, and was afterwards colonel of the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Fencible Calvary, and lieut.-colonel of the Lanarkshire Militia. He died at Wishaw, 29 October 1814. He married, at Edinburgh, 2 March 1789, Penelope, youngest daughter of Ranald Macdonald of Clanranald, and by her, who died at Edinburgh, 5 May 1816, had issue."
