William Lafayette Hawkins

Obituary noted in the Lawton Constitution, July 19, 1954 edition: Funeral Rites. William Hawkins. William L. Hawkins, 66, Lawton pioneer, died at 4 pm. Sunday at his home, No. 13 G, after an illness of five years.

He was born Dec. 12, 1887 near Little Rock, Ark. and came to Oklahoma as a boy and settled with his parents in the present Garvin county. He moved to Lawton in 1929 from Pauls Valley and has lived here since. Mr. Hawkins was married to Annie Gary on April 25, 1909.

Survivors include his widow of the home, six sons: , Willie Frances, Oildale, Ca, Lee Lloyd and Raymond, both of the home, Sgt Ernest Hawkins and Sgt Wesley Hawkins, both stationed in Germany, and Edgar Luther, Sweetwater, TX; four daughters: Mrs. Jewel Gould, Hamilton City, CA, Mrs. Ruby Stout, Oildale, CA, Mrs. Leta Fern Carter, 1616 G. and Mrs. Darlene Bancroft, Almeda, CA. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Willa Roberts, Lawton and Mrs. Susie Fuller, 510 H; two brothers, Henry and Doyle Hawkins, both in Oregon: 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rev. Henry Wall, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate at services, which are still pending. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under direction of Becker Funeral Home.
