About William Henry Bishop
William Henry son of Rachel Spicer 1775-1860 of New York and Sylvanus Bishop 1765-1860 of Massachusetts. William was the 6th son of eleven children born to Sylvanus and Rachel Spicer Bishop. He was born in Oswego, New York,on 11 September 1821.
When William was 15 years old, William left his father's home, he went to his brother Nelson home where he learned the blacksmith trade. He stayed there one-and-one-half years then started out for himself. He traveled through several states. At La Port, Indiana, he heard the gospel preached by Elders Zehial Salvage and Robert Snyder and he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He stayed at La Porte for two years, blacksmithing. William was a Pioneer and traveled with Eliza Pratt Bishop and their children to Utah in 1850.
William Henry married Eliza Pratt on Mar 21 1841 in La Porte, La Porte Indiana. They were sealed in the Original Nauvoo Temple 6 February 1846. Their ten children were:
