Perhaps s. of William Henston and Margery; m. Elizabeth.
He was a lawyer and leading counsel for the Bishop of Exeter in his suit against the city in 1448. J.P. Devon, 26 Mar. 1443 till death; on many comns, 1444 till 1456, and in 1454 he had an indult for a portable altar; pardoned, 28 Mar. 1446 (m. 3), and again in 1452, as of “Wombwell,” Devon (m. 14). Made a King’s serjeant-at-law in 1453; sent to Northern parts with the Duke of York and Walter Moyle (q.v.), July 1454.(1)
D. 1458; his widow remarried Sir Philip Courtenay (q.v.) c. 1459.(2) Will, dat. 1458, pr. at Lambeth 6 May 1458. To be bur. in Kingston ch.; bequests to ch. and vicar; £40 to das. Elizabeth and Jane for their marriages; £20 to Halwell ch., Devon; debts owed to him by Walter Ralegh (q.v.), Baldwin Fulford, Walter Brown, Avery Cornburg (q.v.);. Elizabeth his wife and Jane her mother still living. Administration granted to widow Elizabeth.(3)
