came to Cape Colony as Captain of 7th Dragoon Guards in June 1843 and was stationed at fort Cox on Keiskamma River.
He resigned from Army and returned to England in 1848.
However he returned to the Cape Colony in 1851 as British assistant Commissioner to help solve problems on Eastern Cape border and in Orange River Sovereignty.
Major William Samuel Hogge signed Sand River Convention on behalf of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
